Library update May 2014

Well, the first five months of 2014 have been incredibly busy in the library.  Our new self-check system is now online, tagging of the completion is almost complete, and we're still working on the email notifications.

Donations of books have been flowing into the library: just this week, the library received over 160 books and 360 magazines from Arts SA and 32 books from student Madhu Saraf - many thanks to both Arts SA and Madhu.

We have also been pruning the collection to make way for the donated books by removing duplicate copies that are excess to our needs and out-of-date or damaged books.  We've had one impromptu book sale and will have another (not so impromptu) later in the year.  In the meantime, if you would like to have a look at the few remaining books we currently have for sale, come and visit the library.  Books are sold for $2 each and the proceeds go to buying books on our acquisitions list - four have already been ordered with the proceeds of our first small book sale.

Most of the books donated by the Art Gallery of South Australia Research Library have now been accessioned and are available to borrow.

News of new additions are now posted outside the library near the computers and back-issues of Artlink are also available on the stand.

Cheers!

Welcome to the 2014 Academic Year

Welcome to all new students and welcome back to returning students.

There have been many changes to the library over the summer:  a self-check kiosk has been installed and is currently being tested and additional shelving is also being installed.  This will result in a rearrangement of the collection.

Approximately 400 books have been added to the collection since the beginning of 2014 with more to come.

Our new catalogue went live at the beginning of this year which will enable you to search the School's collection from home, make lists, tag items, and export citations for your assignments.  Log-ins will be the same as your photocopier/PC log-ins and your accounts will be activated when the librarian receives your contact details.

Library sessions are being run with each of the Art History classes and sessions on Mendeley (citation management software) will be scheduled in a few weeks.

Here's to a great year of study!

Donate a box to help move the library!

As Adelaide Central School of Art will be relocating in 2013, so too will the library need to be moved.

And so, our Librarian, Catherine Kerrigan, is looking for donation of empty cardboard boxes. A4 paper boxes with lids, or others of a similar size that can be used for library books, are preferred.

Please leave any boxes either with Catherine herself, who can usually be found in the Staff Room, Library, or Art History Room on Mondays and Fridays, or at the Reception desk.

Many thanks!
